Literacy Series

WALT - WALT think critically about a range of texts by summarising and evaluating new information.

Reflection -
I did this activity with a buddie and my buddie was Emma.
We did this activity for two weeks.
At the start of most of the subjects it was a bit boring
but the when I just got into it and did my work it wasn't as bad.
My favourite subject was the solar system slides.
Because I really like the solar system,
and that’s something that I'm very intrastate in.
Along with this slide we made a dream catcher,

and we are still making it and I hope it turns out nice.

Trust Me With Our Futuer- Speech- Shaie

Trust Me With Our Future

WALT- Write a speech and a leavle 4 standurd.

Picture this you are walking down the beach with your kite in hand. The air is clean and fresh, not a piece of plastic in sight. As your toes touch the fresh sea water you can hear the dolphins playing, they are free and happy just how things are meant to be. Trust me Shaie Comer with our future and this will no longer be a fantasy!

Give me one good reason why we should keep plastic? Can not think of one that's great, it just proves that we need to get rid of it and fast.  As I said plastic is doing nothing good, great, or amazing for our planet, actually it is doing the opposite it is basically killing planet Earth. Have you ever thought about what happens to plastic after you put it in the bin? Well it usually sits at the landfill until it flies away and ends up somewhere in the world. We need to stop this. Whenever it goes in the ocean it will be digested by sea life and when we go fishing we catch the sealife that still have the plastic in them and after that it is on our dinner plates then boom we have just eaten plastic. Just think how good that is for you plastic going into your health system and basically making you more and more weaker by the minute. Personally I would love to live in a world where there is no such thing as plastic or pollution, it hurts me to know that my great great grandchildren have to live in this mess that we have created. That one reason why you should trust me with our future.

Global warming is a huge problem for us right now. The heat rates are off the charts. We are faced with a problem our older generation has created. I know what your thinking yay another speech about how we can save planet Earth, but I’m serious global warming is a huge problem and here’s why. All the gases that trap the heat from the sun (Water vapor, Carbon dioxide, Methane, and Ozone) are unbalanced. When we burn fossil fuels, like coal, oil, and natural gas it relies to much Carbon dioxide, Which is one of the gases, that trap heat. To much Carbon dioxide means too much heat is getting trapped, and that's not good. For example, 2014 was the hottest year on record, then 2015 was the hottest year, and after that 2016 and so on. Big thanks to NASA because they are the people how have been keeping track of the heat rates, because if they weren't doing that then we would have no idea that we need to do something. Just think how bad it will be in 2025. I feel really ashamed about this, we need to look after the Earth not destroy it. I’m trying to help planet Earth and you can help too. We just have to use you small voices to make a big difference.

How would you feel, if some random person you didn’t know just came into your home and took you away from your family, friends, and everyone you know, then shut you away behind bars.Well the animals in captivity don't have to imagine because that's the life they are living.
Did you know that the animals that you have seen is the zoos, malls, and museums,  have all been taken out of our natural habitats and put in cages just so that you humans can pay money to see them. They are forced to do tricks and punished for if they do not obey.  I mean if you want to see amazing animals then buy a ticket to an animal reserve to see them in their natural habitats, seeing them doing what they like to do instead of seeing them do things they are forced and beaten to do. I strongly feel that they deserve better. Animals belong in the wild that's their home.

So here’s the facts people! We need to stop what we are doing and think...Is this life we are living really sustainable? Are we setting up the future generations for disaster.Or are you going to trust me with our future and follow me into a world of change.

I think I did well with my use of words.
I think that I would change the way i ramble on sometines in my speech.
I enjoyed the topic I chose I think it was a good topic for me and my speech.

Morepork slide

WALT- Put a slide together and learn about New Zealands native birds.

Morepork slide
Plz dont change any thing and just read it and plz put it in present!
Enjoy :)

Why Moreporks are that best Native birds in New Zealand

Morepork

WALT- We are learning to write a persuasive writig about our native birds.

“Can you hear that it sounds like someone chanting MORE PORK MORE PORK” “ No you silly duffer it's the moreporks call” Hi I’m Shaie and I’m going to tell you why moreporks are awesome animals. I’ll tell you about their Appearance, diet, and habitat. I hope you learn something new.
Morepork are a beautiful bird, I would know some people say that we look alike. Since the morepork is such a beautiful bird, it has its own unique features such as its bright brown and yellow eyes, its beautiful range of feathers the colour of creamy white, light orange and brown, and again its big booming eyes that stare its prey down. Did you know that the female morepork is larger than the male morepork and I bet they’re cooler than males too, a lot of people mistake moreporks for a normal owl they are not normal here's why. The average weight of a morepork is 175g, from head to tail the average height of a  morepork is 29 cm. The Morepork can turn its head around to 270 degrees. Personally I think that the morepork is one of the prettiest birds out there definitely in the top ten.

Let me tell you all about the morpork diet, I presumed they would eat pizza and ice cream like me but I was wrong. Morepork like to eat a wide range of animals and large insects such as weta, huhu beetles, moths and cicadas, small mammals like mice and young rats EWWWW!!!!! They also eat small birds (especially wax-eyes) I’m coming for you Zhara. Man I was so wrong our diets couldn't be anymore different.

Moreporks are found in open habitats in the South Island. My mum and Dad once saw a morepork at a restaurant on the Karikari Peninsula. The moreporks’ call often gets mistaken for the Brown Kiwi call. Moreporks are widely distributed throughout the native and exotic forests of New Zealand. I would love to see a morepork in its natural habitat, because they’re one of my favourite New Zealand native birds.

Well that’s all the facts and information I have about moreporks today but I will make sure that I do some more research about the morepork because I think they are an amazing species of native birds to New Zealand. I hope that proves how awesome moreporks are and I hope you learned something new, and now you have a new set of facts to tell your friends. Thanks for reading my writing.

Characteristics and Features

WALT- Seperrat the features and characteristics from charactes that we read about.

Descriptive Writing

WALT- Write a discriptive writing about a charcter that we read in a school book

Hera
Looking left and right thinking someone is there, her head throbbing as her heart pounds. Ca boom… Ca boom… Ca boom. She stares deeply into the surface of the lake, with nothing but everything to think about. She steps of the bridge feeling unstable with a slouched back and her head hanging low, as if it's tied to a thin string. Soon she forgets everything, nothing to recall on.
She closes her eyes then slowly opens them. She sees two unclear shadows. As they get bigger and closer she can identify who the blurry shapes are. Her mind starts to shut down like a book falling from a tall shelf. BANG!

Sea Turtles #2

Sea turtles

Do you want Sea turtles to go extinct? Well I definitely don’t!!

Right now your reading a report about Sea turtles this is what you will learn from this report… What they are, How we can protect them, and some cool facts about them.

What they are

Sea turtles are apart of the sea life, turtles breed in the tropics and subtropics, there are five species of turtle that are seen in New Zealand waters. Green and Leatherback turtles are the most common. Out of 7 known species of sea turtles 6 are badly hurt. The main things that are hurting them are poaching, loss of nesting or feeding areas, accidental catch (called bycatch), ocean pollution and weather changes (global warming).

How we can protect them

Well do you think Sea turtles are worth saving? I think they are worth saving, because they're a living species and so are we. I bet you if you knew how to protect them then a lot of people would start to change how they do things. We need to stop littering and start putting our rubbish in the right bins, even better trying not to use as much plastic in general. If you like eating Sea turtles then I’m not going to stop you there, but I will remind you about something very important. If its under size then you need to put it back in the water because that's illegal if you take it home. I think that we should protect Sea turtles and animals just as we would protect our kids and family.

Fun Facts

Sea turtles are very old organisms. They lived on the Earth more than 220 million years. They managed to survive weather changes which killed the dinosaurs.

Sea turtles are very old organisms. They lived on the Earth more than 220 million years. They managed to survive weather changes which killed the dinosaurs.

During nesting season females will return back to the same beach where she was born. She will find the right beach even after 30 years of absence.

Sea turtles don't have teeth, but their mouths are adapted to each type of food that they normally eat.

Green Sea Turtles are vegetarians who eats sea grass, while other turtles eat crabs, clams, jellyfish, and sea cucumbers.

I found all these cool facts about Sea turtle on this website if you would like to read more of them then click on this link. FunFacts

Conclusion

To conclude Sea turtles are living sea creatures that we should all protect. And we should all stop littering and endangering our beautiful Sea turtles and sea creatures. I hope you have learnt something new about Sea turtle. Thank you for reading my report.

I would like to swim with Sea turtles at some point in my life., because I love them so much and I would love to express what it would be like. The thing that was the hardest about this Report was finding all the

information and changing it into my words.

How could you help Sea Turtles stay alive????

Solitaire report

Solitaire

Introduction

Hi I’m Shaie and I’m going to talk to you about the game Solitaire. I’ll tell you about the game, how to set it up, how to play it, and who can play it.

What it is

Solitaire is a card game that only one person can play, it's easy to play at any location. In the park, at school, in the car, on a plane or train, at home, at work and anywhere you could imagine, as long as you have a surface to set the cards on. Solitaire is a fun game and I love playing it. It’s easy to play and all ages can do it, you just have to learn.

How to set it up

But first you need to know how to set the game, so I’m going to teach you. The only things you need is a set of cards, a surface and yourself. Set the cards out one by one. So first set out just one card so the the numbers are facing you. Second two cards the first one facing down and the second one facing up, make sure that the second one it over lapping the first one. Do this over and over and just add one each time till there is seven cards in one column. Then with the leftover card just put them facing down so you cant see them, we will be using those later. This is what the set up should look like.

How to play

The initial array may be changed by "building" - transferring cards among the face-up cards in the tableau. Certain cards of the tableau can be played at once, while others may not be played until certain blocking cards are removed. For example, of the seven cards facing up in the tableau, if one is a nine and another is a ten, you may transfer the nine to on top of the ten to begin building that pile in sequence. Since you have moved the nine from one of the seven piles, you have now unblocked a face down card; this card can be turned over and now is in play.
As you transfer cards in the tableau and begin building sequences, if you uncover an ace, the ace should be placed in one of the foundation piles. The foundations get built by suit and in sequence from ace to king.
Continue to transfer cards on top of each other in the tableau in sequence. If you can’t move any more face up cards, you can utilize the stock pile by flipping over the first card. This card can be played in the foundations or tableau. If you cannot play the card in the tableau or the foundations piles, move the card to the waste pile and turn over another card in the stock pile.
If a vacancy in the tableau is created by the removal of cards elsewhere it is called a “space”, and it is of major importance in manipulating the tableau. If a space is created, it can only be filled in with a king. Filling a space with a king could potentially unblock one of the face down cards in another pile in the tableau.
Continue to transfer cards in the tableau and bring cards into play from the stock pile until all the cards are built in suit sequences in the foundation piles to win! I got this information from this website, Solitaire.

Who Should Play

All kinds of people can play this game but I think that it would be  easier to play when your lonely so that no one can interrupt you. Or if your an older person that can go to many places, for example my Nanni had a car crash and she cant walk so she plays this game all the time. It's a good workout for your brain and it gets you thinking. All ages can play it ,but I think that if your reading this for a game for you son or daughter who is under the age of 3 then maybe think of another game for them to play as they might not understand it.

Conclusion

So now that you know what Solitaire is, how to set it up, how to play, and who can play it I think that you’ll enjoy this game a lot. But if you think it's not for you then that’s ok because no ones the same. Thank you.
